Jim (CMH Gourmand) interviews his dad TGU (Tegucigalpa) Gringo (Ornery North American) about apple cakes. Jim's Dad emigrates to Honduras on December 21st.
Apple Cake Recipe Ingredients 1 ½ cups of vegetable oil 3 eggs 2 cups sugar 3 cups flour ½ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups cut apples (Jonathan, Rome or McIntosh) 1 cup black walnuts Blend: oil, sugar, slightly beaten eggs, salt, baking soda, and vanilla Use ½ cup of flour to coat apples and walnuts Fold floured apples and walnuts into mix Bake in floured and greased bunt pan for 1 hour and 45 minutes – for 2 cakes 1 hr and 35 minutes Topping: ½ cup buttermilk 1 stick butter 1 cup white sugar ½ teaspoon of vanilla ½ teaspoon of baking soda Mix ingredients in sauce pan, heat to boil, stir constantly Boil 2 minutes Poke multiple holes in the cake – pour topping over cake Let cake sit 1 to 1 ½ hours Cake Molds: Large Bunt - 10 x 3 ½ - 1 cake Small Bunts - 8 x 2 ¾ - 2 cakes Music: R.C.
